Put Some Style in Your Wedding Cakes
Buck
the
tradition when choosing the style of your wedding cakes. Times do
change and some traditions no longer make sense, or serve a useful
purpose. And you want to remember your wedding details for
the
happy and fun-filled time had by all your guests rather than reliving
the embarrassing moment of not having a knife to cut the cake
as
several hundred people looked on. Having decided on the style
and type of wedding cakes you want, you can now start
searching
for
bakeries to make the cakes.
When you visit the bakeries, ask for their photo album containing
pictures of wedding cakes they designed and baked for other wedding
customers. You need to find out quickly if the baker can cater to your
needs by designing cakes that you will be proud of. Stand firm on your
intended design and not allow the baker to influence you toward a more
tradition style cake, if that is not what you want.
While you can go for the traditional white color for wedding cakes, you
can still choose a blend of white and another color, or you can blend
two colors other than white. When it comes to colors, let your
imagination run wild, but choose colors you know will strike a
harmonious cord on your wedding day.
Now remember that even bakers have certain biases toward certain
wedding cakes. So you want to start consulting with your baker several
weeks before your wedding date. This gives you time to work on their
beliefs about how your cakes should look, and get them to do exactly
what you need. You could be disappointed if you leave it until close to
the date or assume they would follow your orders without some personal
intervention. Bakers are indeed artistic and would resort to their own
imagination if they had a chance.
You also want to have your theme for your wedding cakes already picked
out before you visit the bakeries. Your theme can be your favorite
flower, for example, roses, daffodils, sunflowers. Or you can choose an
urban theme, or some other theme that suits your fancy. But it is
important to have your cake represent the overall theme of your wedding
and have an imprint of your vision, hopes, and dreams.
Size does matter when it comes to wedding cakes. So you want to shoot
for a monumental and multilayered or tiered cake. And, of course, you
need one large enough to serve all your guests. Also you would want to
have the baker insert a beautiful cake topper, especially one which
adds some pizzazz to the cake design. Cake toppers do add a
majestic look to even traditional wedding cakes.
Also, if appearance is most important in your wedding cake choice, and
if money is not an object, you might want to choose a cake decorated
with fondant icing to grace your wedding cake. Similarly, if
taste is important to you in your wedding cake choice, then you
probably want a butter cream icing.
Finally, when finding out the cost of your cake, don't forget about
extra costs such as shipping your confection. In essence, the baker
could give you the cost for each slice but your total costs would
depend on how many details and the complexity your design is for your
wedding cakes.
